Kendrapara: Following a violent group clash and imposition of Section 144 in Kendrapara during birth anniversaries of Netaji Subash Chandra Bose and Veer Surendra Sai on Wednesday, the Rashtriya Suraksha Samiti called for a 12-hour bandh today in the district.

Normal life was thrown out of gear as Kendrapara district administration declared closure of all educational institutions in the municipality in view of bandh. Shops and business establishments downed their shutters and vehicular movement too came to a grinding halt as agitators burned tyres on main roads.

Kendrapara ADM Basant Rout also said that internet services in the district have been suspended following tension in the area. Rout also informed that the prohibitory order under Section 144 clamped in the town will remain in force till normalcy is restored.

On Wednesday, two groups clashed in High School Ground over a rally organized to observe the birth anniversaries of Netaji Subash Chandra Bose and Veer Surendra Sai. The incident took place at around 3 pm when a group belonging to a particular community opposed the programme. The organisers had carried out a rally from Santasahi to the High School ground.

Later, Sub-Collector Sanjay Kumar Mishra and senior police officials including SP Niti Sekhar rushed to the spot and tried to mollify the issue. Considering the gravity of the situation, Section 144 was imposed in the area and several platoon force deployed.
