Cuttack: In sequel to the recent caving-in of a portion of Palasuni flyover in the State capital city of Bhubaneswar, the same condition was noticed today at the entry point of Kathajodi Bridge here in this millennium city.

The bridge, along the NH-16 stretch, not only connects Cuttack city with Bhubaneswar, but also an arterial inter-state link.

Following the development, vehicular movement got disrupted initially. Later on, Commissionerate Police rushed to the spot and got the spot cordoned off to prevent any mishap.

In his media reactions, Barabati-Cuttack MLA Mohammed Moquim said, “Low quality work has been executed. The reason behind it is improper supervision during the construction work. My inspection now reveals that the soil laid during construction has no boulder packing and proper concrete. Now the soil erosion has started and given birth to the crack. It hints that the bridge construction work done here is of low standard. Total testing and repairing must be done.”

“I strongly demand that the Chief Minister should order for an enquiry. If low standard work has been executed, repairing work should begin soon and let there be a permanent solution to it so that the fear among the public could be allayed. Also other weak points should be detected and repaired properly,” he stressed.
