Bhubaneswar: After threatening couples with stinging nettles (Bichuatis) on Valentine’s Day, Kalinga Sena is now all set to contest the upcoming polls with Election Commission assigning a ‘bat’ symbol to their party.

In a ceremony that was held today, the party members held up their respective bats proudly and chanted, ‘Kalinga Sena zindabad’ and ‘Bat symbol zindabad’.

Party supremo Hemanta Rath said, “Election Commission has given us bat symbol and we will proudly contest polls under that. We will make sure this symbol reaches to the 40 lakh unemployed youth across Odisha. After 1999 super cyclone, non-Odias entered our State. They have to be driven out as they have taken our jobs.”

“We will be fielding 147 candidates for State and 21 MP candidates. We had secured 2 per cent of votes in 2009 and were in a good position. This year too, we hope to divide the votes from the three main parties,” he concluded.
