Kalahandi: The demand for a permanent bench of Orissa High Court gained momentum in Kalahandi today as the Central Action Committee (CAC) and District Bar Association called for a 12-hour bandh.

Normal life came to a grinding halt as markets, educational institutions and government offices remained closed and vehicular movement halted in key roads due to the bandh.

Blocking the Borigumma-Bargarh main road, agitators resorted to picketing and burning tyres. Reportedly, several political parties and local organisations have extended their support to the bandh call.

Simultaneously, lawyers have also called for a 3-day economic blockade in the Western Odisha districts namely Sambalpur, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda and Deogarh over the same demand.
