Bhubaneswar: Former Orissa High Court judge, Justice Bimal Prasad Das took charge as the chairperson of Odisha Human Rights Commission (OHRC) on Wednesday.
Das was appointed chairperson of the rights watchdog on August 22 following the seal of approval accorded by Governor Ganeshi Lal. The Governor also appointed senior High Court advocate Asim Amitabh Das as OHRC member, as per a notification of the Odisha Law Department.
The OHRC had been functioning without a fulltime chairperson for the last seven years. While the acting chairperson Justice BK Misra retired on August 16, 2018, Justice Raghubir Dash, who was appointed OHRC member in December last year, was officiating as the acting chairman of the commission since May 16, 2019.
