Bhubaneswar: Joint replacement surgeons across the country attended the 3rd Annual Meet of Odisha Arthroplasty Association, an association of doctors interested and performing joint replacement surgery in the State and outside, held at city-based hotel The Swosti Premium on Saturday.
The two-day event was inaugurated by President of the Indian Arthroplasty Association Dr Anoop Jhurani. Following which deliberations were held on various aspects of joint replacement surgery with surgical demonstration.
Case based discussion was also held with eminent guest faculty from outside the State discussing on the newer aspects in the Arthroplasty practice.
Arthritis has become very prevalent in todya’s society with both old and young equally affected in the disease. Previously patient used to have deforming joints following affection with arthritis. In modern times joint replacement (also called arthroplasty) with all advanced instrumentation has come to be a boom to these patients thus helping the otherwise crippled patients to walk.
President of the association Dr Tanmoy Mohanty gave the need of joint replacement surgery reaching all corner of the state to benefit each patient. Secretary of Odisha Arthroplasty Association, Dr Debabrata Padhy emphasized on the need of such academic programs, which are planned for throughout the year.
Organising Secretary of the conference Dr Sunil Kumar Dash informed that joint replacement surgery is being now performed at almost all hospitals in Odisha.The main aim of the conference was to learn through exchange of ideas between junior and senior surgeons. A workshop was also held for the junior doctors to train them on basic knee and basic hip surgery.
Robotic surgery may be introduced in Odisha by six months to one year. There are efficient surgeons in Odisha but lack of opportunity, they can prove their competency once provided with an opportunity, he added.
