Bhanjanagar (Ganjam): After a period of hiatus, one more dreaded criminal has been injured in Ganjam police encunter. The criminal hails from Jharkhand and is a ‘supari’ (contract) killer.

The injured ‘supari killer’ has been identified as Bablu Paswan of Jharkhand’s Simdega and has been hopitalised.

Police said that Bablu had come with two of his cronies on contract to bump off an under trial prisoner (UTP) who was to be produced before the court.

Going by the intelligence report, police launched checking and blocking at several places. When the district police personnel intercepted a vehicle on suspicion at Bhanjanagar-based Nidhiapalli, bullets were fired from the four wheeler. The alert cops retaliated and in the exchange of fire, Bablu sustained bullet injuries in two of his legs.

However, his two accomplices could manage to give the police a slip.

As per the preliminary investigation, Bablu was a member of People’s Liberation Front of India (PLFI) and he being the head of Jharkhand committee was committing several crimes. Over 40 cases, like dacoity, murder and loot, have been registered in his name starting from Ranchi to Rourkela.

Ganjam SP Ashis Singh told media that a massive manhunt has been launched to nab the two absonders. Injured Bablu has been admitted to the hospital here. After he recovers, further interrogation will be made and more vital information could be extracted from him.

As per the news update, Ganjam police during its concerted manhunt could later in the day injured one absconding aide of Bablu at Gajalbadi under Tarasingh PS limits.

He has been identified as Jitendra Naik from Rourkela.
