Khurda: Demanding arrest of local MLA (BJD) Prasant Jagdev, irate locals barged into Begunia Police Station (PS) and ransacked it demanding action against local BJD MLA Prasant Jagdev for allegedly threatening a former Sarpanch.

The agitated locals also blocked National Highway (NH)-57 and demanded that the District Collector and SP come over to the spot and take immediate action against the legislator and alleged that no action has been taken yet though complaint has been lodged much earlier.

Following the road blockade, traffic movement along the Khurda-Bolangir road patch got adversely affected.

Adequate police force was deployed at the police station and the protest site to avert any further untoward incident.

In his media reactions, Khurda SP Dipti Ranjan Ray said, “The FIR against the MLA was registered as a Misc Case No 4/19. It has been complained that the MLA had threatened the local Sarpanch why the passage of a bill was hindered and delayed. Hence, today they had intimated that they would submit a memorandum in the police station.”

He informed, “We had made arrangement accordingly. SDPO with one platoon of force were deployed for the purpose. But they kept 30-40 women as shield and barged into the police station right at 2 pm. They have ransacked the main office room. When our police staff protested, an ASI named Mahendra Sethi was injured. SDPO brought the situation under control by hounding the mob out.”

He further informed, “A case has been registered against them for the ransacking. Even when the injured ASI was being shifted to hospital, the vehicle was also resisted. I have reached the spot here. Those who have taken law into their hands, appropriate action will be taken against them.”

He also informed, “Till now we have arrested 4-5 protesters and also seized 6-7 motor-cycles. A manhunt has been launched. Those who are identified as the lawbreakers, stringent action will be taken against all.”

“The case against the MLA is a bailable offence and he has availed bail from the Supreme Court. A notice has also been served to the MLA from the police station,” the SP stated.
