Nimapada (Puri): In an untoward incident, enraged locals clashed with the police personnel and set afire a police van at Charichhak Bazaar near Nimapada in Puri district on Saturday morning.
The peeved people pelted stones at the cops as they allegedly lifted social activist Santosh Pradhan forcefully from his fast-unto-death strike protesting against dismal health services before the Charichhak Community Health Centre (CHC).
Pressing for 8-point charter of demands and prominently filling-up of vacant posts of doctors in the CHC, the social activist was on the strike since November 18.
His health condition worsened, he was persuaded to have liquid and minimum food, police claimed.
He has been admitted to the Puri District Headquarters Hospital (DHH), police informed. Even though the district administration and local MLA had persuaded him to call off his stir three days ago, the social activist had turned it out until his demands were fulfilled.
Besides, Nimapada Sub-Collector and SDPO had also persuaded him to call off his fast-unto-death stir as his health condition deteriorated on Friday.
