Cuttack: The inaugural function of 65th State Level Athletic Meet on Thursday got delayed by four hours as the Odisha Sports Minister turned up very late even though the time was slated to be 10 am. Minister Chandrasarathi Behera reached the venue at 2 pm.

The mega sporting event is being organised by the Odisha Athletic Association here in the millennium city’s Barabati Stadium from December 28 to 30.

Since the Chief Guest did not turn up on time, althletes and the officials from across the State were witnessed sitting idle in the sun and suffered.

In his media reactions, the Sports Minister said, “There had been a communication gap. I had been informed two days ago. I had to attend first the programmes scheduled much earlier in my assembly constituency. For which I was very late. Hence, I am extremely sorry for the delay.”

On the other hand, State Athletic Association secretary Ashirbad Behera defended, “We had taken the decision to get the meet inaugurated by the Sports Minister as it would send a very good message across the State. Since he has turned up and everything is as usual, there nothing to discuss further on the matter.”
