Baripada: A driver and pharmacist were found in a drunk condition while they were on duty today afternoon. The incident took place at Baishinga area of the district here.

According to reports, a woman from Shalanga village was admitted to Baishinga healthcare centre. As her condition worsened, she was referred to Baripada medical college and hospital.

Her family members contacted the emergency 108 services at 11 am but the ambulance driver on call repeatedly deferred the request.

Upon arrival at 2:30 pm, the driver was completely drunk and unable to walk. The duty pharmacist was lying on a stretcher at the rear end of the vehicle, his condition was worse.

It was found that both had consumed alcohol at a nearby place and reported for duty in an inebriated condition.

Local police rushed to the spot and detained the driver and pharmacist. A case has been registered by the police on the basis of a complaint filed by Baishinga healthcare centre in charge. Further investigation is on.
