Bhubaneswar: The identities of the five cadre Maoists, including three women, who were killed on Wednesday in an encounter at Kituba jungle under Padua police limits in Koraput district were revealed on Friday.

While the lady hardcore Maoists have been identified as Kranti, Rinky alias Swarupa and Gita, the two hardcore male Maoists are Dasu alias Sudarsan (Kranti's husband) and Krishna.

Reportedly, a very high risk multiparty operation of four SOG teams and one DVF team was launched on May 8 after receiving input about presence of armed Maoists in the Padua Police Station area.

When the operation party proceeded towards Kituba jungle, a group of about 10 Maoists of Nandpur Area Committee opened indiscriminate firing on the police party.

The security forces retaliated in self defence and an exchange of fire continued for over 45 minutes. Later, they searched the area and found bodies of the Maoists. Three SLR and two INSAS rifles along with kitbags, battery charger, solar panel and other camp related items were seized from the spot.
