IAS Officer Bijay Ketan's Bail Plea Rejected

Bhubaneswar: The bail plea of IAS officer Bijay Ketan Upadhyay, arrested on corruption charges, was rejected by a special vigilance court here Monday.

Upadhyay had been arrested on December 5 and sent to judicial custody till December 13. However, the court extended his judicial custody by 14 days.

The 2009 batch IAS officer was serving as Director of Horticulture in the Agriculture Department and one Santosh Kumar Pattanayak, Relationship Manager of YES Bank, Bapuji Nagar branch had been caught by vigilance sleuths on December 30 with the illegal gratification of Rs 1 lakh.

The money was being demanded from the authorized representative of SRM Plastochem, an empanelled supplier under Directorate of Horticulture, to clear payment of Rs 50 lakh to the company's account. Upadhyay was arrested by the sleuths, following which he was put under suspension.
