Bhubaneswar: A senior State Government officer was attacked by unidentified miscreants at Unit VI area here on Thursday evening. The incident occurred when the officer in question, Batakrushna Dehury had returned home at around 7:30 pm.

As soon as he stepped out of his official vehicle and was proceeding towards his quarter, two masked miscreants assaulted him with a baton. Dehury, an Additional Secretary with the Steel and Mines Department was caught by surprise as it was dark.

In a bid to prevent further attacks, Dehury started screaming following which the duo fled from the spot on a motorcycle. The IAS officer has lodged a complaint with the Capital Police in this connection.

"I have been residing at this place from the past one and a half years. Of late I have not entered into an argument with anyone at work or outside my profession. I am surprised what led to this unfortunate and dangerous incident," Dehury said.

The senior officer added that he would request the police for protection after carrying out an assessment at a personal level. "It is for the police to ascertain the reason behind the attack. I cannot comment on it," he added.
