Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has sent a clear message to his Ministers and officials of the State Government on Diwali. Naveen has said that festival celebrations should be inclusive and Government officials should spend their time with inmates of child care institutions.
Following orders of the CM, a number of senior officials visited child care institutions while the Chief Minister himself will visit the SOS village on outskirts of the State Capital. In this course, the Chief Minister’s Private Secretary and Secretary Transformation and Initiatives (5T), VK Pandian visited the Sports Hostel at Kalinga Stadium complex here.
Pandian is a fitness freak and jogs regularly. His visits to hospitals of different districts, and on-the-spot action hogged headlines in recent times. On the occasion of Diwali, Pandian chose to visit the Sports Hostel of the premier facility and take stock of the conditions.
Pandian as a young boy spent a major part of his student-life in the Sports Hostel, which is why he is so passionate about sports. On Diwali as he got an opportunity to meet youths of the State, his first choice was Kalinga Stadium Sports Hostel.
He was accompanied by a small team to the Sports Hostel. Pandian was seen distributing sweetmeats to the sports hostel inmates and had brief discussion with them about the facilities. The young athletes were overjoyed with the surprise visit of one of the top brass of the administration. They enjoyed the interaction with Pandian, who himself is a sports enthusiast.
"The Happy Diwali wishes and sweets from the CM's Secretary was a pleasant surprise. We are all happy and thanked him for making our day," the young athletes said.
Director & Additional Secretary, Sports & Youth Affairs Vineel Krishna was also present with the 5T Secretary on this occasion. The two senior officials had their Sunday lunch with the students at the Sports Hostel.
Under Mo Sarkar scheme and 5T initiatives, the senior officers are no longer depending on subordinates for feedback on situation at the grassroots. They are themselves touring places and assessing the status of Government facilities. Intellectuals opined, this is the true face of transformation which Odisha is witnessing.
