Cuttack: The narrow lanes of silver city Cuttack pose a big threat during Cyclones- water logging. In view of the fast approaching extremely severe ‘FANI’, Cuttack district administration began the process of clearing the canal work to make way for water flow.

In Bidyadharpur, the process was taken up on war-footing. Switch gates in canals of 10-12 wards were cleared to pump water and avoid water logging. It is notable to mention here that the Taladanda canal usually gets over-flooded disrupting road communication during heavy rainfall. Keeping that in mind, Cuttack Collector Aravind Agarwal directed to Cuttack Municipal Corporation and JICA to make path for rain water.

In duration of 2-4 hours, all cross points were targeted and 36 pumps of 500 HP have already been deployed for pumping out water. Blockages were cleared to ensure no inundation or water-logging takes place. Mic announcements for evacuation of people have already started and people will reach shelter point by tonight, informed Cuttack Collector.
