Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s Private Secretary and Secretary Transformation and Initiatives (5T) VK Pandian can turn out to be trailblazer of sorts considering his recent activities.

Pandian’s unannounced visits and taking food at government institutions can certainly go a long way to bring about transparency and transformational changes in bettering the standard and quality of food served at these institutions to the inmates.

Moreover, this move by the 5T Secretary will certainly inspire other officers to follow his path and discard the earlier protocol of having gluttonous lunch and dinners at the expense of the State exchequer during official visits in favour of spartan meals at government institutions.

Notably, Pandian and two other senior IAS officers which included Chief Secretary Asit Tripathy in a surprise move had their lunch at an Aahar Centre during their visit to Boudh to check the implementation of ‘Mo Sarkar’ initiative in the district’s government-run hospitals. The trio stood in the queue like any other commoner, paid the bill and then did have meals.

In another incident, the 5T Secretary during a visit to an orphanage-Manoj Manjari Sishu Bhawan at Keonjhar, to everyone’s surprise, had his lunch with the inmates and inquired about the availability of basic amenities at the facility.

If people in the know of things are to be believed, the State government is planning to end protocol and ask its officers to have their food in government institutions during official visits to being in transparency which will lead to transformation.
