Malkangiri: New hope has risen for 23-year-old Champa as Malkangiri Collector promises the best possible treatment for her. Bedridden for last 13 years she had lost her will to live and had requested the Chief Minister to grant her euthanasia (mercy killing).

Malkangiri Collector and District Magistrate Manish Agarwal said, “As soon as we came to know about Champa, we sent a medical and block team for inspection. We immediately brought her to the district hospital and are trying to give her the necessary specialist ministrations. If necessary we will transfer her to a better hospital outside the district and even to a private hospital if required. We will make sure that she gets the best treatment.”

Yesterday OMMCOM NEWS had reported Champa’s plight. In the last 13 years, her family’s finances had dried up due to her medical expenses. From modern treatment to local quacks, they knocked every door but found no end to the problem. With her twisted fingers and immobile limbs, Champa did not want to live anymore. In an open letter to CM Naveen Patnaik, she had requested him to allow mercy killing.
