Bhubaneswar: After flood water was released from 20 gates of Hirakud Dam for several hours, authorities decided to close 10 gates on Friday as water level began to recede in major rivers. At 12:50 pm, the water level in reservoir was 620.45 feet.

Avg Outflow: 3,28,295 Cusecs
Discharge at Mundali: 4,74,624 cusecs
While people near Mundali were panic-stricken, dam authorities and district administration have taken all steps to ensure the safety of people in the low-lying areas.
"10 gates of Hirakud Dam to be closed. Water level of several rivers receding. There is no danger to downstream areas. Water at Daleighai is below danger level. People of Jagatsinghpur district feel relieved," informed Water Resources Secretary PK Jena.
