Bhubaneswar: In a gross violation of privacy, a Capital-based hotel was accused of blackmailing innocent customers by claiming to have their visuals in compromising condition.

The hotel in reference, Sai Arya Residency, is based at the IRC Village area under Nayapalli Police limits in Bhubaneswar.

Based on a tip-off, the Nayapalli police had conducted a raid on the hotel late last night. They neither found any hidden cameras nor any such videos. But they took two people into custody.

The survivor mentions in her complaint that on November 5 she was in the hotel to celebrate her birthday party. On 9th she received a call from a number claiming to have her in a video in a compromising position. The complaint also mentions that a ransom of Rs 50,000 was demanded. She stayed mum as she repeatedly claims that she and her friends were just partying and not doing anything. Losing all hope she approached police.

Her two friends seeing the survivor in despair decided to help her out. They trapped the blackmailer stating they will pay them. Survivor’s friends nabbed two people and handed over to the police.

While it has not been confirmed yet, Police believe that two workers of the hotel used to take phone numbers from the official register and call customers to blackmail them.

Meanwhile, the hotel’s caretaker Satya said that for housekeeping they have hired a third party; and that these are the people who are involved in blackmailing. He also claims that none of his hotel staff were involved in this matter.
