Heavy Rain Alert For Odisha: IMD’s Red Warning For 7 Districts

Bhubaneswar: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday predicted extremely heavy rains in seven districts of the State. According to the IMD, extremely heavy rainfall is likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Sundargarh, Bolangir, Kalahandi, Boudh, Sonepur, Nuapada and Jharsuguda on Wednesday (August 14).

IMD has issued a 'Red Warning' for these Western Odisha districts. According to the IMD, "The low pressure Area over northwest Bay of Bengal, adjoining West Bengal and north Odisha coast now lies over southern parts of Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining north Odisha. An associated cyclonic circulation extends upto 7.6 km above mean sea level tilting southwestward with height. It is likely to become more marked during next 48 hours."

Under the influence of above system, squally weather with wind speed 45 kmph likely to prevail and sea condition very likely to be rough to very rough along and off Odisha coast and northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining Westcentral Bay of Bengal. Fishermen are advised not to venture into sea along and off Odisha coast and northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining Westcentral Bay of Bengal during next 24 hrs, a bulleting released by the IMD stated.

The ‘Orange Warning’ has been issued for the districts of Koraput, Raygada, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Angul, Deogarh, Sambalpur, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj and Bargarh. Heavy to very heavy rainfall likely to occur at isolated places over these districts. The IMD has predicted heavy rainfall likely at isolated places over the districts of Malkangiri, Dhenkanal, Cuttack, Nayagarh, Khordha, Puri, Gajpati and Ganjam.
