Bhubaneswar: Probably for the first time Odisha will see people from varied vocations pitching into electoral politics in 2019 polls. One of these being Journalism, and a prominent candidate representing this vertical will be Satya Prakash Nayak, contesting for the Puri Lok Sabha seat.

Being in the media industry for around two decades, Nayak has become a household name as a News Editor and Anchor. After joining the Congress in August 2017, it is time for the former scribe to test political waters.

Nayak said that his maiden electoral venture is not a competition with an individual or a party. “I have been a fighter throughout my career as a journalist and never compromised with ideology. Same applies with politics which is an opportunity to serve people.”

“It is indeed a matter of good fortune that I have got a chance to contest the elections from Puri. I have never succumbed to pressure and shall commit the people of Puri to work for the Pilgrim Town’s holistic development,” he added.

Nayak has been pitted against the BJP’s National Spokesperson, Sambit Patra and BJD’s sitting MP Pinaki Mishra. The people of Odisha will vote in four phases with Puri going to polls on April 23 in phase III of Lok Sabha elections.
