Cuttack: Stressing on this year’s theme ‘kidney health for everyone everywhere’, state Health Minister Naba Kishore Das vowed to improve renal care in Odisha. The minister made the statement today at World Kidney Day event being held at the SCB Medical College and Hospital here.
Over 66 countries across the globe, including India, are celebrating World Kidney today (the second Thursday in March every year). SCB, too, celebrated the day with Naba Das chairing the event. He was accompanied by Special DGP (Intelligence) Dr Satyajit Mohanty, Prof (Dr) Vatsala Trivedi, Prof (Dr) CBK Mohanty, Choudwar-Cuttack MLA Souvick Biswal and other dignitaries.
The Health Minister lauded the efforts of the team of doctors at SCB and the Health ministry for three successful cadaveric kidney transplants. He said, “As per Chief Minister’s Naveen Patnaik’s vision, SCB is all set to become a world-class hospital. We are working on the development of medicare facilities in the State.”
One of the Chief Guests at the event Prof (Dr) Vatsala Trivedi from Mumbai lauded the latest successful cadaveric kidney transplants in the State. She added the transplantation extends the life of the donor by a few years. We need to understand that it is a detailed procedure and the Government needs to upgrade the facilities and the medical team’s knowledge base accordingly.
Special DGP (Intelligence) Dr Satyajit Mohanty reiterated the theme for this year which is ‘Kidney health for everyone everywhere – from prevention to detection and equitable access to care’. Referring to a recent study he said, “In a ratio of 10:1 people suffer from kidney-related ailment and basic screening and treatment must be available to all at affordable costs since it is known to be a silent killer.” He added that recent cadaveric kidney transplants are huge milestones for the nephrology department. Stating that awareness is the need of the hour, he said that more and more people must be made aware of the kidney-related diseases, screening, treatment as well as for organ donation.
