Cuttack: The Orissa High Court today served notice to the Odisha Chief Secretary, Home Secretary, Law Secretary, Chairperson of Bar Council of India and Chairperson of State Bar Council over administration of justice getting affected as a result of agitations by lawyers in different parts the State.
A 14-member bench of the High Court has also served notice to the president and secretary of the Orissa High Court Bar Association and all bar associations of the State in connection with the petition filed by the High Court's registrar in the matter.
The Bench has asked all parties to submit their replies latest by October 21.
"We don't know under what provisions a 14-member bench was constituted. We have seen formation of 11-member benches when there is constitutional crisis. I think it is for the first-time, a 14-member bench has been constituted," stated Gopal Krushna Mohanty, president, Orissa High Court Bar Association.
This is a contempt case suo moto registered by the Registrar of the High Court, we are ignorant about its content and under what circumstances it was registered, he added.
"Chief Secretary, Home Secretary, Law Secretary, Chairperson of Bar Council of India and Chairperson of State Bar Council and all bars in the State where lawyers are protesting against injustice have been served notice. The next date of hearing has been fixed for October 21," Mohanty said.
