Cuttack: The Orissa High Court today directed the State government to rehabilitate the agents who were earlier operating from Regional Transport Offices (RTOs) across the State.
The High Court directed the Transport Secretary to identify the agents and rehabilitate them in e-kiosks and complete the process within six weeks.
The High Court issued the directive while conducting a hearing in a case filed by the Motor Vehicle Field Worker Union, Odisha challenging the State government decision banning entry of agents/middlemen into the premises of RTO offices.
The Union had contended that these agents had lost their livelihood as a consequence of the government's order.
The State government has banned entry of middlemen/agents from Regional Transport Offices (RTOs) across the State from September 27 this year vide a circular issued by Transport Commissioner Sanjeeb Panda
