Havildar Suspended For Handing Over Service Rifle To Woman During R-Day Celebrations In Odisha

Bhubaneswar: A Havildar was suspended today hours after footage of an unidentified woman holding his service rifle during 70th Republic Day Celebrations at the Mahatma Gandhi Marg here went viral on social media.

The suspended Havildar has been identified as Bhagyadhar Nayak of Odisha State Armed Police (OSAP), 6th Batallion, Cuttack.

As per a communiqué from the Commissionerate Police, while performing duty in a high security zone at Gandhi Marg it was noticed from a footage that Nayak handed over his service AK-47 Rifle to an unknown outsider lady.

From preliminary enquiry, it was found to be true and Nayak has been placed under suspension for dereliction and gross misconduct in duty till completion of departmental enquiry against him.

He will be posted at the Office of the Commandant, 6th Battalion, OSAP till the period of orders of suspension remains in force.
