Malkangiri: A hardcore woman Maoist Debe Madhi alias Shanti, carrying a cash reward of Rs 4 lakh on her head, surrendered before the Commandant of BSF's 144th Battalion and Malkangiri SP on Monday.

Shanti a resident of Kusulkonda village in Chintalwada gram panchayat under Kalimela police limits of the district had joined the banned CPI (Maoist) party in Kalimela Dalam in 2008. She was an active member in the Kalimela Local Operating Squad (LOS) from 2008 to 2011. From 2012 till date, she was working in Gumma Area Committee under Malkangiri-Koraput-Vizag-Border (MKVB) Division.

She is suspected to be involved in as many as 17 Naxal activities from the year 2010 including the recent exchange of fire near Andrapalli gram panchayat under Chitrakonda police limits of Malkangiri district on September 10, 2018.

Shanti decided to join the mainstream society after watching the development activities carried in Malkangiri by the State Government. Further, she did not like the activities of CPI (Maoist) cadres like Sudheer alias Dhananjay Gope who is a womanizer and involved in many brutal killings.

She will now get monetary assistance as per the Surrender and Rehabilitation Scheme of Odisha. She shall also get financial assistance for building house, pursuing studies and getting training in a trade or vocation for of her liking.
