Bhubaneswar: As the unexpected success scripted by BJP in the three-tier Panchayat Polls in Odisha is being construed as the saffron party’s alarm against the 17-year-old BJD Government in Odisha, BJD supremo and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday pooh-poohed any possible impact on his party’s future prospect despite BJP’s Gujarat poll victory.

On being questioned by media if he sees any impact of Gujarat election on Odisha politics because even after a strong anti-incumbency there BJP has been able to retain power in Gujarat for the sixth consecuitve term, Naveen Patnaik replied promptly, “I see no impact in Odisha.”

On the second question if BJD would face any anti-incumbency impact here in Odisha, the Chief Minister asserted, “I do not feel BJD will face anti-incumbency because of our development programmes and welfare schemes which are doing well in the State.” When further asked if there would be any impact on the imminent Bijepur bye-election, pat came the reply of Naveen Patnaik with an emphatic, “No.”

When the media wanted to know further if BJD is ready for an early poll as after the Gujarat election there are talks about it, the BJD supremo-cum-Chief Minister averred, “BJD is always ready for polls.”

Notably, Odisha has been the bull-eye target of BJP as it has been pulling up its socks and charting out several political strategies to take on BJD. BJP national president Amit Shah has already given a clarion call to his saffron brigade here to wrest 120+ seats in the 2019 assembly elections and unseat Naveen Patnaik-led BJD at any cost.
