Bhubaneswar: Pandit Gopabandhu Das was a true patriot and son of the soil. His service and sacrifice for Odisha remains unmatched. The manner in which he dedicated his life for the upliftment of poor and the downtrodden is an example for youths of the State, Information and Public Relations Department Minister, Raghunandan Das said today.
Addressing a state-level function on the 142nd birth anniversary of the legendary Pandit Gopabandhu Das, the Minister said that he was committed to the interests of Odisha, Odia language and formation of a separate state. His contribution to the freedom struggle has been recognised by the likes of Mahatma Gandhi and several other national-level leaders.
Gopabandhu was filled with love and compassion for the poor. From education to politics, he led Odisha in all fields. "The more we discuss on the life of Gopabandhu at all levels, we shall get inspired to follow his footsteps," Das said.
Speaking on the occasion, Satyabadi MLA Umakanta Samantray said that the principles and ethics of Gopabanbdhu are rarity. People from all age groups should read more about his and try to emulate his teachings, he said.
"A tall leader like him could not see the misery of the people affected by floods. He used to seek alms and distribute it among the downtrodden," said Samantray.
Guests on the occasion paid rich tributes to Gopabandhu on his birth anniversary. Successful students of schools and colleges were felicitated on the occasion. Cultural events were also organised by the Department to honour the memory of the great people's leader.
