Bhubaneswar: The officers of Air Intelligence Unit of Customs at Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) in Bhubaneswar have foiled another attempt of gold smuggling.
As per an official communiqué on Monday, the officers have seized 48 square size gold pieces of foreign origin collectively weighing 215.600 gm having 99.9 per cent purity and valued at Rs 8,91,506.
The said gold was found to be concealed inside the checked baggage and hand baggage of one passenger of India origin, hailing from Madurai in Tamil Nadu who had arrived from Kuala Lumpur by an Air Asia flight at around 9 PM on January 17.
Acting on spot intelligence, the officers intercepted him and during search recovered and seized the said gold under provisions of Customs Act.
