Bhubaneswar: The officers of Air Intelligence Unit of Customs thwarted yet another attempt of gold smuggling at Biju Patnaik International Airport with the arrest of a lady passenger carrying gold bars weighing around 1 Kilogram.
Reportedly on Monday, the custom officials led by Commissioner Satyendra Kumar Singh and Joint Commissioner Bishnu Charan Sahu intercepted the lady passenger, hailing from Maharashtra, who arrived from Delhi in an Air India Flight.
During search of her personal luggage, the officials recovered nine gold bars of foreign origin concealed inside an emergency light totally weighing of 959.990 gms valued at Rs 33,16,579 (Rupees Thirty Three Lakhs Sixteen Thousand Five Hundred and Seventy Nine only).
Besides, cigarettes totaling of 24,400 sticks (122 packets each contains 200 pieces of cigarettes), valued at Rs 1,22,000 (Rupees One Lakh Twenty Two Thousand only), was also seized from her possession.
