Rayagada: A violent scuffle broke out between two parties over a marriage proposal at Seshkhal Police Station of the district today morning. The incident relates to a love affair between a teacher, Dhiren Patnaik, and his student who were reportedly staying together for a couple of months.

However, the boy’s family opposed the proposal and allegedly demanded a heavy dowry. The girl’s family had staged a dharna in front of Dhiren’s house on Thursday. They had also filed a police complaint in this regard.

As the Police tried to intervene and settle the matter amicably, the two sides resorted to a fist fight at the Police station itself. The scuffle resulted in the girl getting severely injured and minor injuries to other members of both families. The girl was rushed Jemadeipentha Hospital for treatment.

On the other hand, Dhiren has accepted that while he was in a relationship with the girl there was never any talk regarding marriage. He has accused the girl and her parents of trying to wrongfully malign him and his family.
