Mayurbhanj: Odisha-born IAS officer Girish Chandra Murmu, who has been appointed as the first Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, will perform his new duty with full sincerity, opined his family members staying at Kunchisol village under Khadiasol panchayat of Mayurbhanj district.
Their happiness knew no bounds after he was appointed the first Lieutenant-Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, as per a statement from President Ram Nath Kovind's office on Friday. "I thank the Government of India for giving him such a responsibility and congratulate brother for the new appointment," said Girish's brother Dilip Kumar Murmu.
"We believe that he will fulfill his responsibility with honesty and integrity. He has performed well in his earlier positions and will do the same as the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir," said Girish's sister-in-law Punam Murmu.
Born to late Bhagbat Murmu and Parbati Murmu on November 21, 1959, Girish is the eldest among six brothers and two sisters. After completing primary education at his village, he studied at Baripada and Rourkela prior to completing his Post Graduation in Political Science from Utkal University in Bhubaneswar.
After pursuing higher studies in Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), Girish cracked the civil services in 1985 and started his career as a Gujarat cadre IAS officer. Now Girish, who is serving as the Expenditure Secretary in the Union Finance Ministry, is perceived as one of the most trusted serving bureaucrats in the Union Government.
His appointment as the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir has not only brought cheers to his family but to all the residents of his native district.
