12 February 2020

Berhampur: Taking a leaf out of his own book, Ganjam Collector Vijay Amruta Kulange cycled around Chatrapur area and not only fined shopkeepers for using plastic bags but also created awareness for maintaining cleanliness.

On Tuesday evening at about 4-5 pm, Kulange with several officials of the Chatrapur NAC took a tour of the market area. The impromptu inspection was conducted to keep a check on the usage of plastic bags.

A fine of Rs 25,500 was collected in a single day.

He also interacted with shopkeepers regarding maintenance of cleanliness in the surrounding and asked them to use dustbins for waste disposals.

This is not the first time that the Ganjam collector has undertaken such surprise inspection. On February 7 at about 10.30 pm, Collector had fined a garment shop in the heart of Berhampur Rs 10,000 for littering. He was also seen reprimanding a local for not using dustbin.
