Bhubaneswar: Former Union Finance Minister Yashwant Sinha today appreciated Odisha Government’s “KALIA” scheme being implemented for the welfare of the farmers and their family members.

His remarks came while he was deliberating at the Odisha Nirman Conclave-2019 organised by an Odisha news channel here today.

During his key note address, Sinha said, “I got the opportunity to know that KALIA scheme has been implemented here in Odisha. It’s good because it speaks about universal basic income. I strongly advocate that universal basic income should first be implemented for the farmers and agricultural sector.”

He added, “In my article recently published in an English daily, I have stated that there is a conflict in our economic system since Independence till date. What is the conflict of interest? It is that the farmers should get right price and there is a price hike or the farmers shouldn’t have access to right price and appease the consumers. It is obvious as we are all consumers. History evinces that we have considered more about the consumers than the farmers. Due to this, the condition of the farmers in our whole country is very grim.”
