Former Minister Bhagabat Mohanty Breathes His Last, CM Naveen Expresses Grief

Bhubaneswar: Former minister Bhagabat Mohanty breathes his last at his residence here today. He was 90.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik expressed deep grief at the passing away of veteran Congress leader. The Chief Minister described late Bhagabat Mohanty as an able administrator and a seasoned politician. He conveyed his deep sympathy to the bereaved family.

Mohanty was elected to Legislative Assembly three times from Kendrapada constituency for the first time as Praja Socialist Party candidate and in next two terms from Congress ticket. He had also served as the state Higher Education Minister.

Socially active, Mohanty was involved in the establishment of various educational institutions. He had joined the Kisan Satyagraha Movement during student career 1949-60 and fought for the Land Reforms Movement. He was also involved with the Co-operative Movement in the State.
