Bhubaneswar: Former Gauhati High Court Chief Justice, Ajit Singh has been appointed as the first Lokayukta of Odisha.
On Saturday, Odisha Governor Ganeshi Lal has approved Singh's name following the recommendation of the selection committee headed by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.
The selection committee had unanimously finalised the Chiarperson's name in a meeting presided over by the CM on February 12. The office of Lokayukta will start functioning from April 8, said sources.
Justice Singh held the post of Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court from March 5, 2016, till his retirement on November 5 last year.
Born on September 6, 1956, Singh practised on civil, criminal and constitutional sides in the High court of Madhya Pradesh and has been appointed as Additional Judge of the Madhya Pradesh High Court on April 1, 2002, and permanent Judge on March 21, 2003. He was transferred to Rajasthan High Court on March 5, 2016.
Odisha’s Lokayukta selection committee had former DGP Gopal Nanda, ex-IAS officer Sanjiv Hota, former IAS officer Dr RN Bohidar, Dr Bidhu Bhusan Samal, Prof Snigdha Patnaik of XIMB and Vice Chancellor of National Law University, Bangalore, Dr Venkata Rao Rambhatla as its members.
