Cuttack: Former Chief Justice of India (CJI) Dipak Mishra on Sunday received an honorary Doctor of Law degree from the North Orissa University (NOU).

The NOU had conferred the degree on Justice Mishra during its 11th Convocation on March 28, but as the former CJI had some engagements he was unable to attend the event.

Today, the university authorities awarded the degree to Justice Mishra in Cuttack, while he had visited Odisha to attend convocation of Rama Devi Women's University, held yesterday.

In its citation, the NOU had stated how Justice Mishra has made not just his native State, Odisha, but the whole country proud as one of its finest legal minds. His judgements, when he helmed the highest legal institution of the country, have made historical impact on various matters.

"As an adjudicator you have shown exceptional levels of courage and compassion. Your dedication to protection of democray and practice of constitutional ethics will inspire future generations," the NOU stated.

It further mentioned that the unversity takes a great pride and privilege in conferring the degree on Justice Mishra for his role as a legal luminary and for his unflinching commitment towards upholding law and justice.
