Berhampur (Ganjam): Unable to bear with the false allegation of theft and unwanted blemish smeared on self-dignity despite being innocent, a 14-year-old boy in the district committed suicide following which his bereft parents have filed an FIR in the local police station against the stone-hearted abetter and succour for justice.

The shocking incident has taken place in Kanheipur village under Khalikote police limits.

The deceased has been identified as Babulu Das (14) of Maheswarpur village and a Class IX student of Kanheipur High School.

On Thursday afternoon, he had been to a local hotel (eatery joint) for having snacks. The owner started thrashing Babulu after accusing him of having stolen Rs 30 from his hotel even though the innocent boy went on pleading. Later on, some local youths intervened and rescued the boy.

But as the grave insult was intolerable to the blameless boy, he on the very evening consumed poison at home.

Initially, he was rushed to Khalikote hospital. Following deterioration in condition, he was shifted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital here where he succumbed to his treatment at Friday noon.

MKCG Medical College and Hospital Out Post ASI Prakash Chandra Acharya said, “A poisoning case has been reported here. The victim is 14 years old Babulu Das son of Padma Charan Das. The report has come of suspected poisoning death. As per the report an UD case has been registered here. Inquest and post mortem of the body will be conducted.”

Bereft mother Jhuna Das lamented, “On September 6, I had sent him to purchase some greens. He found an abandoned mobile phone and Rs 30 cash at the shop. He didn’t bring them with him but had touched. He came back home, had food and went to school. Later, I heard a commotion. When rushed there found my son being beaten with a ‘chappal’ (sleeper shoe) by Dagara Bisoi. My son was thrashed like anything. No onlookers surrounding the spot came to my son’s rescue. When I intervened, he offended and abused me like anything. He also charged me with his ‘chappal’.”

“I had escorted him to school in fear of Dagara Bisoi. But, the way he was humiliated before others along with me and also being insulted by his school teachers over the matter, he consumed poison and committed suicide. When I returned from the Sarpanch, I noticed my son vomiting. I want justice and punishment to the person for whom my son took this extreme step,” she demanded.

Deceased boy’s uncle Bikram Behera said, “If the little boy has committed anything wrong, he shouldn’t be tortured and humiliated inhumanly in public. Even his mother also was not spared. Dagara Bisoi demanded Rs 5,000 to spare. For the last three days, Dagara Bisoi had been torturing the little boy and his mother. Even the school teacher also insulted him. Unable to bear with such blame and insult, he committed suicide by consuming poison.”

“Whether he has himself consumed poison or Dagara Bisoi has forced him to consume must been probed into,” the aggrieved uncle demanded.
