Fog Leads To Train Accident Near Cuttack, Several Injured

Cuttack: Heavy fog lead to Mumbai-Bhubaneswar Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT) Express hitting a stationary goods train occurred between Salagaon and Nergundi railway station of Cuttack.

At about 7 am today, the LTT Express hit a stationary goods train resulting in five bogies of LTT Express getting derailed and another three getting displaced, said East Coast Railway CPRO JP Mishra. He added that they are giving top priority to the train and the process to rerail it will be initiated shortly.

Senior Railway officials and Train Driver/TTE have confirmed that there are no deaths. While the exact number of injured is unknown as of now, there were confirmed reports of at least 21 people getting critically injured and about another 11 having minor injuries. First aid was given to about eight passengers.

Railway accident medical van has reached the spot. The injured were given appropriate treatment. The critically injured were shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack.

Out of the 21 injured who were shifted to SCB, two are minors and one lady was a senior citizen. All of them are said to be out of danger currently.

Concerned Railway and Fire service officials are already at the accident site.

East Coast Railway has issued helpline number- (0764) 1072 or (0674) 1072 to which one can call to avail information regarding the passengers of the LTT Express.
