Baripada: In an alleged case of medical negligence, an HIV+ woman had to lose her unborn child at the Pandit Raghunath Murmu Medical College and Hospital (RMMCH) here.
The husband of the woman has alleged that the doctors at the RMMCH delayed the surgical procedure for the delivery of the baby which led to its death on Friday.
"We reached Rairangpur Sub Divisional Hospital accompanied by the ASHA health worker on December 12 (Thursday) at around 8 PM. The doctors there advised us to shift to RMMCH here. On reaching here doctors got my wife admitted. At around 3 AM my wife complained of excruciating labour pain. I reported it to the doctors. No doctors attended her despite my pleadings. They said that my wife will be having a normal delivery and asked us to wait,"alleged husband of the HIV+ woman.
"On December 13 (Friday) morning doctors checked my wife's health condition and said that the baby is dead. Had they taken up surgical procedure to deliver the child instead of waiting for normal delivery my baby would have not died," husband of the HIV+ woman further alleged.
Pakapura Soren the ASHA health worker who had accompanied the couple to the RMMCH has claimed that the woman is HIV+.
She has alleged that had the attending doctors taken up surgical procedure to deliver the baby it could have been saved.
Despite our attempts to get a version of the attending doctors on the tragic incident, none preferred to talk to the media.
