Flood Situation Improving In Odisha, Free Kitchen Provided For All Evacuated People: Minister

Bhubaneswar: The flood situation in Odisha improved as water level began receding in all affected areas, informed Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Sudam Marndi. Koraput, Kandhamal, Malkangiri, Kalahandi, Gajapati, Nabarangpur and Rayagada, have been the seven most affected districts in the State over the last 24 hours.

One ODRAF team has been deployed in each of the districts. Teams of health and fire services for rescue, relief and restoration work have also been mobilised at all these districts. Many people have also been evacuated and free kitchen is being provided to those people, the Minister added. Steps for disinfection and water treatment are also underway. 

As recorded at 8.30 am on Thursday, more than 100 mm average rainfall has occurred in a day in five districts namely, Jharsuguda (207.2 mm), Kalahandi (150.7 mm), Bolangir (117.2 mm), Jajpur (115.4 mm) and Koraput (110.6 mm)

Two blocks in Kalahandi district have recorded rainfall of more than 300 mm- Th. Rampur– 312 mm and Kalrlamunda – 309.2 mm. As many as nine blocks have recorded rainfall between 200 and 300 mm. And 53 Blocks between 100 mm and 200 mm.

River Status: The water level in River Vamsadhara at Gunupur has receded to 83.09 m (below danger level) at 9 AM today. Similarly, at Kashinagar water level had risen to 56.30 m against the danger level of 54.60 m. The water has receded to 54.89 m at 9 AM today. All other major rivers in the State are flowing below warning level.

As shared by the office of Special Relief Commissioner, the situations of different districts are as follows:

KoraputMovement has been affected as approach road connecting Lima and Asana of Kundra Block has been cut off due to excessive water flow. Tehasildar of Kundra has taken stock of the situation while police, fire are on alert.

Kandhamal: 130 persons in Tumudibandh (74) and Kotagada (56) Blocks have been evacuated to safe shelters. 2 persons are missing and feared to have been swept away.

Malkangiri: No adverse situation has been reported anywhere. 2172 persons have been evacuated to 24 shelters. Free kitchen centers have been opened for people.

Kalahandi: 4 teams have been deployed to assess situation in Th. Rampur block. 164 persons from eight villages have been evacuated to safety. Free kitchen has been arranged for the evacuees and medical teams are visiting the relief camps.

Gajapati: Weather is partly cloudy and partly sunny. The water level in Vansadhara is receding and all the concerned officers are taking stock of field situation.

Nabarangpur: Rainfall continues in several villages. Tree cutting and restoration work of uprooted electric poles is on. Two gates of Indravati Reservoir have been be opened for which evacuation has been taken up at villages like Sanodaibhatta, Badodaibhatta.

Rayagada: 3128 people have been evacuated in eight blocks and sheltered in 21 relief camps.
