Bhubaneswar: First time MLA Raghunandan Das, who has been allotted the Water Resources and Information & Public Relations (I&PR) department in Naveen Patnaik-led BJD government, said he has worked for public welfare with various departments during his 35-year political career and is ready to face each and every challenge.

"It is a pleasant experience that I entered the assembly for the first time and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik expressed his faith on me by allotting the Water Resources and Information & Public Relations department. I pray near God to perform duties of both the departments appropriately," said Das.

There are many public welfare schemes in the departments and necessary steps will be taken in future if needed. Further, the problems in the departments will be addressed properly, he added.

Das, who defeated veteran leader Damodar Rout from Balikuda-Erasama assembly constituency, said while he was representing BJD the latter was representing BJP and one of them obtained the public mandate. On being asked about his joining BJD after resigning from BJP, Das asserted that he is a founding member of BJD.
