Cuttack: A First Information Report (FIR) has been filed against a youth at Bidanasi Police Station for showing disrespect to the former Chief Minister Biju Patnaik’s bust and then posting the same on social media.

The FIR was filed by Asif Amin, Working President, Biju Chatra Janta Dal (BCJD) on late Saturday.

As per the report, the youth and his group of friends were at the Anand Bhawan Museum and Learning Centre, the ancestral house of the late Biju Patnaik. In the video now going viral, a youth is seen mollycoddling the bust with caption ‘why so serious’. His friends can be heard laughing and no attempts are being made to stop him in disrespecting a national figure.

Bijayananda Patnaik, popularly known as Biju Patnaik, was an Indian politician, aviator and businessman. As a politician, he served twice as the Chief Minister of the State of Odisha in 1961 and 1995. He played a vital role in Indian Freedom Struggle and a major role in saving Kashmir. He also served as Union minister for steel and mines in both the Morarji Desai and the Charan Singh governments in 1977-1979. His younger son, Naveen Patnaik, is the current Chief Minister of Odisha.

Biju Patnaik is widely respected not just across the State but also nation-wide. The blatant disrespect to the Odisha’s favourite son has garnered strong criticism.
