FIR Against Sundargarh SP After Woman Alleges Miscarriage Due To Assault

Sundargarh: A FIR has been lodged against Sundergarh SP Saumya Mishra at Hemgir Police Station following a petition filed by a woman at Sundargarh SDJM Court alleging she was mercilessly assaulted by the former that led to her miscarriage.

The woman, identified as Priya Dey of Kanika village under Hemgir police limits, in her petition has mentioned that on July 4, 2019, the SP forcefully entered her house without any authority with men in uniform and threatened to kill her husband Uttam Dey alias Gopi.

SP Saumya Mishra even threatened to kill Priya if she did not tell whereabouts of Gopi. The SP even physically assaulted Priya on her abdomen, which resulted in her miscarriage.

Following it the SP went to Gopi's fly ash brick factory and damaged five vehicles and one brick machine. The total estimate of the damage is around Rs 4 lakh. On the next day Priya's husband Gopi was taken to Sundargarh Sadar Police Station and tortured mercilessly.

As the Hemgir Police denied receiving her FIR against the SP, Priya filed a petition at the Sundargarh SDJM Court.

Taking cognizance of her petition, the court directed the concerned police station to register an FIR. Following which a case was registered against SP Saumya Mishra at Hemgir Police Station on July 14, 2019.

The SP has been charged under sections 427, 341, 506, 457, 323, 294, 342, 313, 166, 167, 503 and 504 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Deputy SP Jyotshnamaye has been handed over the charge of the investigation.
