Angul: Joys knew no bounds among the villagers when the 2-and-half-year-old girl Radha Sahu, who was fighting against time for survival, was finally rescued and rushed to the Angul District Headquarters Hospital after 8 hrs of rescue operation launched by Odisha fire brigade and ODRAF team.

CM Naveen Patnaik also expressed relief at the successful rescue of Radha. He even congratulated the fire service staff and ODRAF team for their wonderful work.

Angul Collector has meanwhile ordered for a probe into the incident on why the borewell pit was kept open. The Collector has directed the Lift Irrigation Executive Engineer to submit the enquiry report by tomorrow positively. Those responsible for it will face action.

The Collector also informed that Radha's medical treatment expenses will be borne from the District Red Cross fund.

Radha had accidentally fell into an open borewell pit of about 50 metres in Gulasar village of Jamunali Gram Panchayat under Handapa Police Station limits on Monday morning hours. It is presumed that the girl fell in the open pit while playing.

She was heard wailing for help as fire brigade personnel and police personnel got engaged in the rescue operation assisted by the villagers.

Even specialised 10-member ODRAF team from Cuttack was pressed into action.

According to sources, a camera was sent into the pit which confirmed that the child was alive.
