Farmers Term KALIA Scheme A Boon For Them

Puri: The launch of Odisha Government’s pioneering “KALIA” (Krushak Assistance for Livelihood and Income Augmentation) Scheme at the State level farmers’ convention in Puri received a heartwarming welcome from farmers.

Minutes after Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik gave away the assured assistance under the scheme to 12.45 lakh beneficiaries via DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer) in the first phase, a farmer said, "The KALIA Scheme brought by Naveen Babu has benefited us a lot. Earlier we were borrowing money with high rate of interest but now the government will provide us interest free loan upto Rs 50,000."

Another farmer from Astaranga in Puri opined a State and nation will prosper with the progress of farmers and if the youths take to farming they need not work as bonded labourer but can earn sufficient to sustain their family.

"The State Government through KALIA Scheme is providing money which if used for agriculture purpose can help us progress but if the amount is diverted for other purposes it will not benefit anyone," he added.

Highlighting the benefits of the KALIA Scheme, another farmer from Nimapara said now all small and marginal farmers will receive financial assistance of Rs 25,000. Landless farmers will receive an assistance of Rs 12,500 plus all farmers can avail interest free loan upto Rs 50,000 and life insurance of Rs 2 lakh through the scheme which is a just like a boon.
