FANI Aftermath: Odisha Govt Directs Banks To Remain Open, Calls For Special SLBC Meeting

Bhubaneswar: In order to provide essential banking services in the cyclone hit districts of Odisha, the State Government has directed all banks to open their branches even in absence of power and internet connectivity, informed I&PR Secretary Sanjay Singh in a presser on Thursday.

Besides, the government has requested to call a special State Level Bankers' Committee (SLBC) meeting and has also instructed all insurance companies to send their surveyors to analyse the damage done to lives and properties by cyclone FANI.

Singh informed that 60 out of 239 bank branches and 20 out of 273 ATMs in Puri district are now functional. In Khurda, 372 out of 707 bank branches and 197 out of 1164 ATMs, including that in Bhubaneswar, are now functional.

In Cuttack, 260 out of 422 bank branches and 162 out of 593 ATMs are now functional. In Jagatsinghpur, 123 out of 178 bank branches and 112 out of 196 ATMs are now functional. Similarly in Kendrapara, 113 out of 144 bank branches and 105 out of 169 ATMs are now functional, Singh added.
