Jajpur: Two miscreants who looted a cloth store at Panikoili market by posing as cops were arrested by the police on Sunday.

The duo, identified as Soumya Ranjan Patnaik of Angul and Partha Sarathi Dalei of Bhadrak, fled from the shop after shopping articles worth Rs 15,000. They intimidated the shopkeeper to collect the dues from the local police station.

On suspecting their intentions, the owner of the shop, Bijay Sahu rushed to the police station and realised that the two were imposters. On the basis of Sahu’s complaint, the police launched a manhunt and nabbed Patnaik and Dalei from an undisclosed location near Sathipur.

The police have seized a toy-gun and recovered the stolen articles from their possession. The duo has been booked under charges of impersonation, theft and fraud. They were produced in a local court and remanded in judicial custody.
