Berhampur: Miscreants looted jewellery worth several lakh rupees from an elderly couple at Jaiprakash Nagar square here on Sunday.

The fake cops claimed that a group of thieves were active in the area and asked to couple to keep their jewelery safely. While they were packing the gold ornaments, the thugs asked them to deposit their jewelery safely with them.

After the elderly couple, Bhaskar Patra and Rajkumari Patra handed over their jewelery, the miscreants fled from the spot. The couple beloning to Pokhariput area of Bhubaneswar started screaming for help following which a team from Baidyanathpur police station arrived at the spot.

On the basis of a complaint lodged by the couple, the police have registered a FIR and started a manhunt to nab the accused.
